Isle sur La Sorgue

Here is the town hall and one of the 17 functioning water wheels. It was cool to see the water wheels. I thought I made a movie of it, but I guess I haven't mastered that skill yet.

The travel book called it the Venice of Province, but the similarity ends with the fact that there was water.

Some general comments about France:  the waiters are PERFECT. They don't tell you their name or ask how your day is going...they just pay attention, but are neither friendly nor aloof. They are professionals. They notice the minute you put down the fork. They are right there when you want something. A nice contrast to the "friendly" American wait staff who are seldom really thinking about what you might want.

My favorite meal so far in France? This will surprise you, but it was an omelette au fromage. Adjust your mind, though, because this omelette bore no resemblance to any in N America. It was ETHEREAL, it was like eating a cloud of eggs and cheese. The cheese was no doubt grated into the eggs and was perfectly incorporated. No American cheese slice lying limply between some stiff over cooked eggs. And, I had a salad in St. Remy that I'm still thinking about because so much thought went into the preparation and combination of items.
A bientot.

Farmers market Nimes

Nimes

Serendipity. I had planned to go to Isle sur la Sorgue, but when I got to the train station they said, "c'est pas possible"..there are no trains going there today.
So, I went to Nimes instead. Say it the way the French do..Neem-a, I lucked out..it was a Sunday farmers market. Lots of free tastes of the most awesome cheeses, stupendous olive oils, home made jams and tapenades. Everything lavender. Farm animals for the kids to pet and the bulls they will kill at the bullfight were on display.
I had thought that I wanted to see a bullfight because I read they do not kill the bulls here, but people who have been say it is not true. I've been to the arena..same one the Romans used for their slaughters, and it is very intimate. You would see every cruel blow. They cover the floor with sand to absorb the blood, same as the Romans did.
Aside from the bullfights, Nimes is great. It took me about 5 minutes to decide, "OK, I really would like living here." Here are some pics of Nimes.

Avignon

Love my little terrace and cozy apartment.
Avignon is bustling and lively,  many university students.

Avignon

The pictures are out of order. The bowls are flavored salt...about ten different ones in the market.
The carousels are everywhere in France, charming.

A typical street in Avignon, and, finally, the view of the River Rhone from the Pont d'Avignon.
A model of the Pope's palace as it once was..now it is crumbled.

Can't  do laundry today because its going to rain. Ponder that, North Americans.
More Barcelona

Check out the protected geese living in the cloister, and see what young men are doing post-breakdancing.
13 geese represent the 13 tortures so Saint Eulalia. The guys in the park hop inside the giant hula hoop and spin around in it.
